Lot 118: 1972 Fiat 595 SS to Abarth Specification
Autosport 2007, Coys (13th January 2007)
Abarth was established like so many other manufacturers in post-war Italy, basing his business upon modifying small capacity Fiats. When Fiat introduced the Nuova 500, and then the 600, Abarth had a mass produced basis on which to build giant-killing racing cars. This sealed Abarth's future and his firm went from strength to strength. Abarth went on to win more races than any other manufacturer; some 7,000 in total, in addition to 5 world and 113 international speed records. In all the categories contested Abarth were virtually unbeatable, even by larger engined race cars, and the firm won six successive World Manufacturers' Championships titles in the mid 1960s, along with the European Mountain Climb Championship and numerous other titles. It is no surprise, then, to learn that Carlo Abarth was nicknamed "The Wizard" or "The Sorcerer".Manufactured in 1972 this superb car is based on an Italian delivered rust free car and is finished in superb two tone blue coachwork and a chequered hard top (sunroof supplied). The car boasts many upgrades such as rebuilt brakes and period bucket seats, With the engine lid propped open, lowered suspension and rare competition wheels, the car has a purposeful stance. The 650 engine breathes through twin choke Webers and has special head and fast road cams and delivers power via an all new synchro box. An aluminium sump, sports exhaust and an electric fuel pump complete the competition specification. This car is reported be the vendor to be one of the nicest in Europe and is supplied with a current MoT valid until November next year. Fully 'badged up' this little car is perfect for city travel while turning more heads than an Enzo.
