Lot 27: MG A 1500 ROADSTER

Although still retaining the charm of a traditional sports car, the MGA represented a considerable advance on its predecessor, the MG TF. With independent front suspension and rack and pinion steering, handling was crisp and precise, giving the MGA a considerable advantage over its main competitors. The B-series engine, fitted with twin SU carburettors, developed 72bhp and, under favourable circumstances, the streamlined shape helped the MGA towards a top speed tantalisingly close to the then-magic 'ton'. Today, in the warm summer sunshine, with the top down and the wind in the driver's hair, that 'MG feeling' is still magical and it is easy to understand why the MGA was, and is still, so popular. work was carried out around the time that the previous owner purchased the car seven years earlier. Finished in red with red-piped black trim, the car remains in good order throughout with the paintwork only slightly dulled and some tarnishing of the brightwork evident. Mechanically, the owner advises us that there appears to be an intermittent fuel problem, possibly due to stale petrol and lack of recent use, though this was not an issue on a short test.
