Lot 302: 1975 Porsche 914/6
British & Continental Sports & Touring Motor Cars, Coys (29th March 2008)
Introduced in September 1969, the Porsche 914 was the result of a collaborative effort between Porsche and Volkswagen to produce a sporting car. What they came up with was a mid-engined vehicle, powered by a flat four cylinder Beetle-derived engine, with seating for two and a Targa top. Volkswagen needed a vehicle to replace the aging Karmann-Ghia model while Porsche was looking for another option to add to its line-up. Topping the range was the 914/6 using a Porsche 2.0 litre flat six engine; it was short lived and only 3,360 examples were produced between 1970 and 1972. The 914/6 sits very low and this together with stiff suspension make it a great competition car; indeed, throughout the 1970s 914/6s were campaigned heavily in various events ranging from club sprints to the Le Mans 24 Hours, the latter the scene of the highlight of the 914/6's competition history when a Sonauto example finished sixth overall and won its class, a remarkable accomplishment. On offer is a 1975 914/4 which was up-rated to 914/6 specification in 2004, using only original Porsche parts for the complete rebuild. The engine, a 2.4 litre unit producing 130bhp, has recently been fitted with new seals and bearings etc, and it has been thoroughly examined; power is transmitted via a five speed gearbox. In addition, in mid-2007 the rust free body was re-sprayed in its original colour of black and new carpets are also supplied with the car. As one would expect, this Porsche is described as being in very good condition and it comes complete with German historic papers and German TUV test certificate valid until March 2009.Basis ist ein 914/4 aus EZ 07/1975.
