Lot 110: Audi Quattro Turbo Coupe

The first seeds of the Audi Quattro were sewn in the mid-1970s, when Volkswagen designed an off-road 4x4 called the Iltis, mainly by plundering the existing Volkswagen/Audi parts bin. The Iltis experience led Audi engineers (notably Ferdinand Pi�ch) to investigate the benefits of four-wheel drive in a high-performance road car, starting with an early Audi 80. Once Audi management had been convinced of the superiority of the four-wheel drive car, in adverse conditions, by back-to-back tests with standard front-drive cars, Ferdinand Pi�ch was given the green light to develop a high-performance, four-wheel drive machine for road and rallying. The rest is history.Offered here is an uprated Quattro Turbo Coupe of 1987 Vintage, which has benefited from a restoration and rebuild taking 3 years. During the restoration, the car was fitted with a 20 valve, twin-cam engine from the later RR Quattro. This later engine gives 220bhp in standard trim. The car was also colour changed to chrome yellow and has covered a mere 7000 miles since the work was completed. Described as being in excellent condition, this very quick, individualistic example of a Quattro Turbo Coupe offers excellent value for money, especially with the surge in interest, created by the television programme "Life on Mars".
