Lot 228: Porsche 911 3.0

Techno Classica, Coys (4th April 2009)

By the mid 1970's the Porsche 911 had already reached legendary status, both on and of the track, and since the car's launch in 1965 the Stuttgart factory's engineers had found ways to squeeze more power from the 2 to 3 litre flat six cylinder engines. During this time the 911's dramatic development had much to do with the frantic racing programme that was used to expand the range; no other car can claim such a linier heritage to racing as the 911. The road cars benefited as well as the race cars of this era, hailing a new dawn in motoring and perhaps one of the most famous marriages in modern sports car production, that of the Porsche 911 and the Turbo charger. First introduced in 1975 the production 911 Turbo was directly derived from the cars used in endurance racing and used a 3 litre engine with a 4 speed gearbox. These early examples are now the most sought after Turbo variants and are certainly the most collectable. This matching numbers example has been imported back to its native Germany from the United States and has covered a mere 38,000 miles from new. The original odometer has now been replaced by a km- specimen, however the original item stil comes with the car. It is finished in its original colour of minervablue metallic which is nicely complimented by the cognac leather interior. It still features its original Blaupunkt Radio. In 2008 and 2009 the mechanics of this rare beast have been comprehensively and expertedly revised and are, according to the vendor, in excellent condition. The engine was completely dismantled and reassembled, using new valves, head studs and new bearings throughout. All metal parts were sandblasted and powdercoated or zinc coated, a new clutch was fitted as well as a windscreen. The underbody was dry ice blasted and freshly sealed, new brake discs and pads were fitted, as was the exhaust manifold and battery, to name but a few. As a result, the mechanics are reported to be in excellent condition, just buy this car and drive away. Some ¬ 14,000 were spent, for which invoices come with the car. Highly recommended.
