Lot 041: 1973 MG B GT
Cars, H&H Classic Auctions Ltd (20th June 2007)
The MGB is and always has been a very popular car. With sales of more than 500,000 during its eighteen year production run, it outlasted and outsold that other icon of 1960s British motoring, the Jaguar E-Type. Introduced in 1965, some three years after its roadster sister, the GT was an altogether more practical proposition. Capable of year round use, it also boasted greater interior space and more relaxed high speed cruising. An enjoyable drive with a surprisingly modern feel thanks to its capable chassis and rack and pinion steering, it represents one of the most inexpensive ways to enjoy classic motoring. Finished in green with black velour upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim) or "excellent" (chassis, bodywork, paintwork) condition. Owned by a MG Club member of ten years standing, 'GLV 927L' is apparently "well known to fellow members". The subject of a "recent photographic restoration", it is reputed to have covered just 18,000 miles from new. Summed-up by the seller as "a brilliant classic" that is "loads of fun", this well presented GT is offered for sale with history file (service bills, MOTs etc), post-restoration engineer's report and MOT certificate valid until August 2007. PLEASE NOTE: We apologise but this vehicle has been withdrawn from the 20th June 2007 auction.
