Lot 216: Porsche 356 Speedster Tribute
Spirit of Motoring Ascot, Coys (3rd October 2009)
The 356 has always been popular. In 2004, Sportscar International ranked the 356C tenth on their list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s. Today, the Porsche 356 is a highly-regarded collector car and the Porsche 356 Carrera, Super 90 and in particular the Speedster are today among the most desirable 356 models. A fully-restored Speedster (of which only about 140 were ever made) will sell for around £100,000.
With prices touching six figures and demand consistently strong, recreations have of varying success have been produced and this particular example is certainly a strong contender as being one of the best.
Manufactured in 2008 and finished in white with a tan leather interior, this right-hand drive example is naturally described by the vendor as being in 'new condition' throughout. Built on a 1963 chassis and fitted with a new fibreglass body and panels from original Porsche moulds, the car is a highly authentic recreation and we are informed by the vendor that the panel gaps are fantastic.
The interior is finished in tan leather, with new boot carpets, bumper guards and a full tonneau cover completing the cosmetic components. Power is provided by a powerful 1915cc flat four engine and fitted with disc brakes enables the car to keep up, and in some cases out-perform more modern rivals.
Supplied with a 1963 registration mark, V5 document, MoT certificate valid until August 2010, this is a superb opportunity to acquire a freshly built, highly authentic example of this classic Porsche design, MCY 105A will delight any admirer of the Speedster model.
