Lot 136: Jaguar XJ6 SI 2.8 Saloon

Classic Collectors & Historic Cars, Barons (6th February 2007)

It was September in the year 1969 when Jaguar stunned the world yet again. They had achieved this feat twice before. Once in 1948 with the XK120 and again in 1961 with the E-Type. In 1969 they did it with a saloon car. Not only was it a saloon car, it was a saloon using an engine designed in the 40's and suspension borrowed from the E-Type, MKX and S-Type. The combined parts of the XJ6 came together so well that it managed to become, in the opinion of the worlds motoring press, the Best Car in the World.Offered here is an example of a 1972 XJ6,which is completely original and has covered only 34000 miles in the hands of One Owner. The car is offered complete with full and comprehensive history, which includes the original Jaguar Passport to Service booklet and the original Bill of Sale from Abbots Jaguar, Leigh-on-Sea, dated December 22nd 1971.Finished in midnight blue with saville grey leather interior (the rear door sills are still covered in the protective plastic), the car is equipped with a heated rear window and a period Radiomobile LW/MW radio. The low mileage, a single owner and the wonderful history makes this Jaguar very desirable. Add to this the fact that it is a rare, surviving 2.8 and the fact that it is equipped with the manual + overdrive gearbox and it is an exceptionally rare find.
