Lot 469: 1970 Dodge Challenger 383 R/T

The first Challenger was Dodge's late entrant to the pony car market segment in the United States. The Challenger was launched in 1970 with exterior design by Carl Cameron, who also did the exterior for the 1966 Dodge Charger. For the 1970 Challenger grille, Cameron based it off an older sketch of his 1966 Charger prototype that was to have a turbine engine. Although the Challenger was well-received by the public (with 76,935 produced for the 1970 model year), with Challenger production ceasing in 1974.Four models were offered: Challenger Six, Challenger V8, T/A Challenger, and Challenger R/T. The performance model was the R/T (Road/Track), with a 383 in Magnum V8, rated at 335 horsepower.The example on offer here is a correct,matching-numbers hardtop version of one of these high-performance R/T models, manufactured in 1970. Along with the standard Rallye instrument cluster, including a 150 mph (240 km/h) speedometer, an 8000 rpm tachometer, and an oil pressure gauge, the car was fitted from new with power assisted disc brakes, rear bumper guards, a slapstick shifter, remotely operated left mirror, power steering, tintend windows, a centre console and bucket seats. Finished in sublime green, this car is offered in mint condition throughout and comes complete with a comprehensive service history file, including current V5 and MOT certificates, original US certificate of title issued by the Maryland Department of Transportation, and numerous past MOT certificates and reciepts for works carried out on the car over the years.
