Lot 432: 1965 Jagaur E-Type Series 1 4.2L Roadster

Fine Motor Cars, Coys (5th July 2008)

1965 Jagaur E-Type Series 1 4.2L Roadster
On its Geneva Show debut in March 1961 the Jaguar E-Type caused a sensation, with all the promise of its looks confirmed by a 150mph top speed and 0-60 and 0-100mph in 6.9 and 16.2 seconds respectively; fast indeed, and combined with superb roadholding and remarkable docility. In October 1964 it was superceded by the 4.2 litre model; apart from the capacity increase from 3,781cc to 4,235cc and improved torque but the same power, it boasted a new all synchromesh gearbox, better brake servo and seats, an alternator and leather-faced rather than aluminium dashboard. October 1964 saw the debut of the 4.2 litre model; apart from the capacity increase from 3,781cc to 4,235cc and improved torque but the same power, it boasted a new all-synchromesh gearbox, better brake servo and seats, an alternator and leather-faced rather than aluminium dashboard. This 4.2 Litre E Type, manufactured in 1965, has recently been the subject of an extensive restoration project, with all decorative items either re-chromed or replaced using parts supplied by either SNG Barratt or Bassett Jaguar in America. The engine has been fitted with a fully overhauled and machined cylinder head, new timing chains and sprockets and fully rebuilt carburettors. The gearbox and differential have also been fully overhauled, the car has been comprehensively rewired, and a new clutch assembly, new and uprated Wilwood brakes, new Koni shock absorbers and a new stainless steel exhaust system have been fitted, as well as a new hood and top boot cover. Finished in Carmen Red with a black interior fitted by a Jaguar specialist, and having completed only a handful of shakedown miles since its painstaking restoration, this E Type represents a superb opportunity to acquire one of the most important and beloved sports cars ever made. With nothing more to spend, this highly desirable example of Jaguar's most famous model is not to missed!
