Lot 318: 1929 Ford Model A Open Tourer
True Greats, Coys (5th December 2007)
Ford's Model A took over from the Model T in 1927 and used a conventional 3.3 litre four cylinder engine with three speed sliding-type gearbox and four wheel brakes. It was the first Ford to use the then standard set of driver controls, with conventional brake and clutch pedals, throttle pedal and gearlever; previous Ford models used controls that often perplexed the inexperienced driver. Notably, the Model A's fuel tank was located just behind the engine and elevated above the carburettor, the gravity feed negating the need for a fuel pump. Final production ended in March 1932, after 4,849,340 Model As of all types had been produced. This two seat open tourer was manufactured in 1929, in the very first years of Model A production, and imported to Great Britain in 1998. Having been comprehensively restored over 1998/'99 the car is, as one would expect, in great condition with the green bodywork and black interior in fine order; a tan hood provides suitable wet weather protection for driver and passenger. This matching engine and chassis numbers car also has a useful dickey seat, enabling the owner to take the whole family out and for the last 10 years it has been serviced and maintained by the vendor who operates his own garage. Supplied with the Ford is a V5 registration document, MoT test certificate valid until October 2008 and a year's road fund licence. This is a great little car that will offer the new owner pre-war wind in the hair motoring for all the family.
