Lot 145: Bentley Turbo RL

The 135 mph Bentley Turbo R was launched at the Geneva Show in March, 1985. It was original planned that the Bentley Mulsanne Turbo should also remain in production but this decision was revised when sales collapsed. This fall in sales was because the Turbo R out performed the Mulsanne in every department with far superior handling, braking and performance.The Turbo R benefited from modified front and rear suspension, the first-time use of alloy wheels and wider tyres and a front air dam. These modifications put the car's handling in the thoroughbred sports car category rather than luxury saloon. The Turbo R achieved a sales figure which made it one of best-selling Rolls-Royce models, at the time, in the companies history.Here we have a truly outstanding example of the Turbo RL, which is equipped with a host of expensive options and is said to have covered just 40,000 miles from new with full Rolls-Royce service history in support.The list of options is extensive and includes the following:- Cocktail cabinet, boot mounted refrigerator, Continental R alloy road wheels with red centres, Special order paintwork, Boot mounted umbrella's in individual holders, Top Roll in royal blue hide, leather cased first aid kit, rear duchess straps.The RL is the limousine version of the Turbo R with an extra 4" of legroom in the rear. This example is in, quite simply, stunning condition, requiring nothing other than a new owner. The private vendor has recently moved and has had to rationalise his collection of cars. This is the single reason for the sale of this beautiful Bentley.
