Audi's Quattro took the rallying world by storm, being the first car to use a turbocharged engine in conjunction with four wheel drive. The results were astounding and the message for manufacturers was clear, they needed four-wheel drive to be competitive in rallying. The road car featured an up rated version of Audi's 2 litre 5 cylinder engine capable of turning out over 215bhp.
