Lot 35: Jaguar 340
Sale of pre-war and Thoroughbred Motor Cars, BCA (7th June 2007)
The revised editions of the 2.4 and 3.4 Mk 2 models, marketed as the 240 and 340 respectively, were produced between 1967 and 1969. The principle visual differences were the re-styled, slim-line bumpers along with the use of ambla for the upholstery. A 1968 example of the 340, this motor car has been in the hands of the current owner for the past 24 years. Between 1988 and 1990 an extensive restoration was undertaken by Jaguar specialists, Peter Thurston of Herne Bay, and details of all work carried out are supplied in a comprehensive log, along with photographs, etc. A considerable sum of money was spent bringing this motor car to a high standard and, following its completion, it has been enjoyed at numerous rallies and events. Several photographs of it participating in a variety of events are provided. In its livery of British Racing green with Parchment leather upholstery, the car looks extremely smart sitting on chrome wire wheels and is understood to be in very good mechanical order with the engine having been rebuilt at the time of the restoration. It is fitted with the preferred manual gearbox with overdrive and has the advantage of a stainless steel exhaust system. Potential purchasers are recommended to inspect the considerable amount of documentation supplied with this motor car which includes a Swansea registration document and current MOT certificate valid until August 2007.
