Lot 217: BMW 3.0 CSL Coupe

The BMW 3.0 CSL will always be remembered as one of the most elegant and distinctive sports cars to emerge from the 1970s, but it was also one which provided the firm with competition success, and hence publicity value, beyond all expectations. During this period one of the most exciting categories of racing was the European Touring Car Championship, and the two principal contestants were Ford (Cologne) and BMW. BMW's main weapon was the CSL (Coup� Sport Leichtmetal), a lightweight version of the 3.0 CS featuring alloy doors, boot lid and bonnet; and more spartan trim. The overhead cam six cylinder engine was fuel injected and delivered 210 b.h.p., with strong torque throughout the rev range, which meant the car was as quick at covering real road miles as its acceleration figures on paper led you to believe. This car has been first registered to the BMW AG in 1972 with the registration number M - AH 1092. After having been used by Jochen Neerpasch, the car was given to BMW Tuning firm Schnitzer for further developments resulting in a comparison test in the renowned German magazine AUTO, MOTOR + SPORT in december 1972, where it has been described as the most powerful of the five CSL's tested in this 10 page article. Schnitzer improved the cars engine from initially 230 HP to 290 HP amongst other features and the car was immediately known as "THE GREEN MONSTER having been painted in such colour then. Later the car was repainted in Schnitzer's motorsport colours in which it is presented today. Sold in 1974 to the dealership Wogatzke the car subsequently has had only 3 owners, 2 of which were father and son who kept it until 2008. It was purchased in 2008 from another BMW dealership, which are in fact the now vendors. Never used in racing, the car was not registered since 1994 as per the German paperwork, supplied with this important vehicle. This iconic and rare BMW 3.0 CSL is described as being in good and original condition and surely represents a rare opportunity for any serious BMW collector or enthusiast who wants to rally or race it. Dieser BMW 3.0 CSL wurde als Neuwagen im Jahr 1972 im Zuge der von Jochen Neerpasch angefangenen Tuneraktivit�ten auf die BMW AG mit dem Kennzeichen M-AH 1094 zugelassen. Der bekannte BMW Tuner Schnitzer entwickelte das Fahrzeug weiter bis zu einer Leistungssteigerung auf 290 PS, wie aus einem 10 -seitigen Vergleichstest der Zeitschrift AUTO, MOTOR + Sport aus dem Jahr 1972 ersichtlich ist. Seitdem hat das Fahrzeug nur 3 weitere Eigent�mer ( 2 davon Vater + Sohn ) gehabt und ist seit 1994 stillgelegt. Es wurde nie im Renneinsatz benutzt und wird heute von einem BMW H�ndler zum Kauf angeboten. Der BMW befindet sich demgem�� in unverbasteltem und guten Originalzustand und wird mit dt. KFZ Brief angeboten. Sicherlich eine seltene Chance f�r jeden ernsthaften Sammler der Marke oder zum Einsatz im historischen Motorsport. Nichts f�r Leute mit schwachen Nerven.....
