Lot 113: Alfa Romeo Spider 2000

Designed by Pininfarina and first seen as the Duetto in 1966, the Alfa Spider acquired a cult following after appearing in the movie The Graduate, which starred Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft. The original Boat Tail design, as seen in the movie, was dropped in 1967, in favour of a more aerodynamically efficient Kamm Tail, when a 1962cc version also became available. The model continued in production for over 27 years, until the early nineties, with only detail changes to the original 1966 Pinifarina design.This 1978, left hand drive example has been in the vendors ownership for 18 years and is said to have been extremely well cared for. Originally a Californian car, which then went to the South of France before arriving in Surrey, it is described as being remarkably free of rust and ultra reliable.Finished in black, the car has benefited from £2400 worth of expenditure at Ken Bells Alfanatic establishment (01252 629159), who described the car as " in excellent condition relative to its age". During the vendors ownership the car has been equipped with various new parts, including shock absorbers, Webber carbs, carpets, starter, radiator, seats covers and squabs, full repaint, engine overhaul (top end) and much more.Sadly for sale due to an expanding family and the need for more practical transport.
