Lot 202: Jaguar 340 Saloon (MKII

Jaguar Heritage Auction, Barons (11th June 2006)

It is hard to believe that 47 years have passed since the launch of the Jaguar MKII. It is even more remarkable to note that demand for this Iconic classic remains undiminished, with specialists offering modernised versions for £50,000+ and restored, unmodified cars, still achieving high valuesThe styling of the MKII is timeless, the performance is more than adequate and ownership is made simple via a huge spares and specialist repair network..By 1967 the MKII was loosing ground to the competition and was proving expensive to build. Knowing that the model needed to survive for another two years Jaguar carried out a make-over and cost cutting exercise. Out went leather and in came Ambla, off went the heavyweight bumpers, on went a slimline version and out came the front driving lamps, to be replaced by dummy air intakes. There were some positives as well with the 2.4 gaining a straight port head and some weight savings. These changes kept the MKII in production until April 1969 with a further 7,000 cars leaving Browns Lane. This 340 (3.4) is said to be in very sound condition, has the three speed auto transmission and is said to drive very well. Finished in honey beige with red interior, the car is offered compete with MoT through to May 2007.
