Lot 137: 1973 Jaguar E-Type S3 V12 Fixedhead Coupe
True Greats, Coys (30th November 2006)
In 1971 Jaguar's V12 unit finally became available in the E-Type, setting new standards of refinement and flexibility whilst restoring the 140mph+ performance of the original model. The production of the famous Jaguar V12 engine had been on the table since the sixties and continual development of the project saw a four cam version fitted to the still born but infamous XJ13 race car project. By 1971 Jaguar announced the introduction of its new E Type fitted with a single cam per cylinder bank V12 engine of 5.3 litres. The cars success was only blighted by the 70's fuel crisis and general down turn of the economy at that time. In modern times the debate over which E Type is the best goes on, and on, however at one point there can be little doubt that the series 3 whether in roadster or 2+2 form is the best tourer model of them all. With more cabin and luggage space and the power of the fabulous V12 engine it makes a great trans continental sports car. This magnificent fixedhead 2+2 finished in the traditional British racing green with biscuit trim is in exceptional order throughout having been the recipient of a comprehensive restoration between 2003 and 2006. This restoration included a bare metal re spray and a complete mechanical overhaul. Fitted with the more desireable manual gearbox, it comes with a history file detailing the restoration and photos of the rebuild, along with a heritage certificate, MoT until April 2007 and the UK V5 logbook. A genuine right hand drive car, the vendor describes it as in excellent condition , stating that it drives beautifully.
