Lot 459: 1937 Lancia Aprilia Four Door Saloon

Vincenzo Lancia’s final great masterpiece was the Aprilia which went into production early in 1937, a new compact car, seating five in comfort and combining speed with economy. The aerodynamic saloon was of unitary construction with minimal (for the period) drag factor, sliding pillar front suspension, trailing arm rear suspension incorporating a transverse leaf spring, and powered by a forward mounted 1,352cc V4 engine. The all-new engine featured hemispherical combustion chambers, aluminium cylinder block and Duralumin conrods and developed some 47.8bhp. Designer Falchetto was responsible for the styling, with considerable influence from Pinin Farina at Corso Trapani. This car was the subject of some extensive restoration completed in the 1980’s. Acquired by the present owner in 1995, the car was laid up some three years ago and, although in generally fair condition, it is known that the fuel pump requires attention and the timing chain tensioner needs adjustment. The car has been rewired. This Italian classic is offered with a Swansea V5 document, old style log book, Lancia Motor Club publications relating to the Aprilia and spares include an engine, fuel tank and brake drums.
