Lot 216: Jaguar MKII 3.4/340 Auto Saloon

Classic Americana + Classic & Collectors Motor Car, Barons (22 July 2008)

It is hard to believe that 49 years have passed since the launch of the Jaguar MKII. It is even more remarkable to note that demand for this Iconic classic remains undiminished, with specialists offering modernised versions for £50,000+ and restored, unmodified cars, still achieving high values. The styling of the MKII is timeless, the performance is more than adequate and ownership is made simple via a huge spares and specialist repair network. Offered here is a later 340 version of the MKII, which is described as being in very good condition throughout, extremely sound, mechanically, professionally maintained and stored in a purpose built classic car storage facility during the vendors ownership. The 240/340 was introduced in 1967 and came with lighweight, slimline bumpers, dummy grills in place of the fog and driving lights on the MKII and Ambla covering the seats, rather than leather. These changes helped to keep the model in production until 1969 and the launch of the XJ6. Finished in Carmen red with black Ambla interior, the car is equipped with the 3.4 litre XK engine and 3-speed Borg Warner automatic transmission. It sits on chrome wire wheels and is complete with the valuable registration CAR 213F.
