Lot 111: Jaguar E-Type SI Roadster LHD
Jaguar Heritage + Collectors, Barons (16th June 2009)
Having been in production for nearly 5 years, the E-Type was beginning to attract some minor criticism about comfort, brake efficiency and the Moss gearbox. In 1965/66, the new 4.2 litre, XK engine was installed under the bonnet and a new, all syncro gearbox was fitted. The seats were slightly larger and much more comfortable and the brakes had already been improved with a servo. This was the Series One 4.2 E-Type, which, is the rarest of the E-Types, as it was replaced by the S2 within 2 years. The SI 4.2 retained the beautiful, original styling, while offering a few more creature comforts and a bit more torque. Died in the wool enthusiast mourned the passing of the 3.8 engine but anyone who actually drove this new E-Type, fell in love with it.
Offered here is a 1966 SI 4.2 Roadster, in original LHD configuration and fully restored. The car was originally supplied by Jaguar Cars, New York, which is detailed in the JDHT Heritage Certificate. Since being repatriated to the UK the car has benefited from a full restoration and an engine rebuild. at a recorded 88,463 miles. The odometer now reads 96215.
Finished in Carmen red with black leather and sitting on chrome wire wheels, the car is equipped with the 4.2 Litre XK Engine, 4-speed, all syncro gearbox and is described as being an excellent example. Unlike the later S2 American specified cars, the S1 4.2 retained the Triple 2" SU carbs and around 265bhp, which meant that the performance was still sharp and the under-bonnet view, still inspiring.
