Lot 134: Jaguar XK150
Classic Collectors & Historic Cars, Barons (11th December 2007)
The 150 was the final incarnation of the 1948 introduced Jaguar XK Sports Car. Replacing the XK140 in 1957, the 150 was an altogether more refined and comfortable option, which was faster and stopped better, due to its all disc brake set up. Some purists turn up their noses at the 150 but for those of us who actually love the looks and like to enjoy the driving experience, the XK150 offers a great compromise. While the E-Type continues to receive the plaudits for styling and performance, it is worth noting that a 3.8S XK150 was not very far behind the E-Type in performance terms and had the benefit of an overdrive gearbox, which the E-Type never had, due to design restrictions.Offered here is a 1959 XK150 FHC manual + overdrive. The car is an original RHD example, which is complete with a comprehensive history file, which includes the Green Log Book, showing that the car retains its original registration number.Once owned by XK aficionado and XK Gazette contributor Peter Ingram, who sold the car to a Swiss collector, who is believed to have placed the car is a museum before it was returned to the UK in 1979.The car is offered complete with an extensive history file, which includes numerous invoices and letters detailing a full engine rebuild by Forward Engineering in 1980 and a Guy Broad disc break kit. The car has covered just 25,000 miles since the engine rebuild.Finished in red with tan leather and sitting on wire wheels, the car is equipped with the 3.4 XK engine, 4 speed overdrive gearbox and a stainless exhaust system.
