Lot 143: 1970 Porsche 911 2.2 E

True Greats, Coys (30 November 2006)

The Porsche 911 is perhaps the most timeless design ever seen in motoring history. The car dominated its class as soon as it was launched in September 1963. Today, albeit very much more developed, it continues to attract adulation from enthusiasts and the motoring press alike. This unconventional and charismatic car evolved at an astonishing pace in its early life, with significant developments occurring annually during the late sixties and early seventies. One of the most significant years for 911 development was 1968 the year in which the already raspy 2.0 litre engine received mechanical fuel injection, or Einspritzung (E) as it was known. Later in 1969 the capacity was also increased to 2.2 litres giving the 911 E some 155 Bhp.This beautifully presented 911 2.2 E finished in silver with a black interior has been the subject of a lengthy and meticulous restoration by the owner of a well known West London Porsche service workshop. As this was a personal project no expense was spared and many hours were spent bringing the car to the excellent condition it is presented here. In addition due to his years of experience in dealing with Porsches of this kind he was able to incorporate many upgrades to the engine to improve the performance and reliability. To this end the standard and often weak cylinder head studs have been replaced and upgraded, new stainless steel heat exchangers were fitted, the engine cases were polished and compression was raised. It is estimated that this has improved the performance to aprox. 185 Bhp. During the engine rebuild the car was converted to run on unleaded fuel and a later 915 gearbox was fitted.A history file accompanies the car detailing the work along with the UK V5 log book and a new MoT.In recent years the value of 'pre impact ' bumper 911's has risen dramatically, the top spot being reserved for models with the best performance. This car represents a unique opportunity to purchase a car directly from the man who restored it, with all the care, love and attention you would only commit to a personal project. A really fine and great driving classic car to own.
