Lot 174: BSA 70cc Dandy Scooter
Vintage and Collectors Motorcycles, Bonhams (20th June 2009)
Not BSA's finest design, the little 'Dandy' was born of the company's quest for a reliable, easy-to-use lightweight to supplement the low-capacity versions of the 'Bantam'. On the face of it a stylish, well-sprung scooter, with a user-friendly, pre-selector two-speed transmission, the 'Dandy' was let down by a basic design fault, in that almost any maintenance involved splitting the engine-unit and rear suspension! Despite that they are charming and easy to ride and are increasingly sought-after by collectors. YNX 778 appears to have been the victim of maintenance. In good, corrosion-free condition, it is lacking most of the engine-unit and also its documents, though the scarce silencer is present. It will form a good source of chassis parts for an enthusiast.
