Lot 243: 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 Roadster
Probably the most readily recognizable of all collector sports cars and certainly the most likely to be heading any serious addict's wish list is the Jaguar E Type. The XK120, 140 and 150 line was always going to be a difficult act to follow, but the E Type rapidly outsold them all. Borrowing much from the race proven technology of the legendary D Type, the first production E Type with 265bhp 3.8 litre engine from the XK150, which it directly replaced, was announced in March 1961. Thanks to low drag bodywork and lighter monocoque construction the performance of both open roadster and hard top coupe E type, initially with headlamps fared in behind wind cheating cowls, was extraordinary for the early 1960's. For in those happy and speed camera-free days, an early E Type driver could enjoy 150mph performance for less than £2,100, being able to out perform virtually all of the more pricey competition. This 1967 built series 1 roadster is in very good condition throughout. The svelte body is finished in white and sits on chrome wire wheels. The interior is finished in black leather and again is in very good condition. The car benefits from a full service history including bills dating back from 1967. Old MoT's and a current certificate valid until March 2007 are also presented with the car.Prior to the current owner purchasing the car in 2002 the previous owner kept the car for a total of 24 years from 1978. In total there are four previous owners. Since the vendors ownership a number of small but subtle modifications have been made including an electric aerial and up-rated brakes and seat belts. This is truly a timeless classic, the ultimate expression of 1960's chic.
