Lot 212: Jaguar MKII3.4 - 340

After 8 years in production the MKII, together with the whole Jaguar saloon car range, was getting near the end of production. By 1969, the only saloon being built by Jaguar was the new XJ6, replacing the S-Type, 420 and 240/340 compact saloons. To keep the MKII in production for 1967 and 1968 Jaguar made some major costs cutting changes to the specification. Out went leather interiors, replaced with Ambla (vinyl), out went the heavy fluted bumpers, in came slim-line blades and the driving lights were replaced by dummy air vents. Only 6000 rhd and 1265 lhd 240/340 cars were built, making them extremely rare.This 340 has been in the vendors ownership since 1998, when it benefited from a complete restoration. This included new panels, panel repairs, a complete repaint in Midnight Blue, new leather interior, refurbished veneers, new chrome, professional engine rebuild and unleaded conversion, renovated Webasto style sunroof, the fitting of chrome wire wheels and radial tyres.Finished in midnight blue with black leather, the car is equipped with a manual, 4 speed + overdrive transmission, although the chassis number shows that it left the factory with a Borg Warner automatic box, in 1968. This is a very common practice with MKII's and seems to have little effect on the value.Considering the money and effort that was lavished on this car, only eight years ago, it is now offered at a price that can only be described as extremely attractive.
