Lot 205: BMW 1800 Factory Tisa
Sports, Sports Touring, Competition & Grand Prix, Coys (8th August 2009)
BMW's successor to the 1500 saloon was the 1800, launched in September of 1963, with a 1,773cc, 90bhp engine. One interesting variation of the 1800 was the 1800ti which continued the manufacturer's trend towards sporting motoring by delivering 110bhp, courtesy of twin sidedraught Solex carburettors and an increased compression ratio of 9.5:1, while the chassis featured stiffer suspension. With the BMW 1800ti race drivers clinched numerous victories, including Hubert Hahne winning the German Circuit Championship in 1964. A mere 200 genuine factory-built Ti sas were produced, most of which now reside in museums or private collections. As a result, Coys is delighted to offer this highly original BMW for sale on the open market.
Produced in 1965, this original ex USA factory BMW is described as in original and untouched condition having been maintained by marque specialists over the years. The BMW is fitted with a full roll cage, safety petrol tank and new engine and differential by Richard Shaw. Supplied with FIA papers, EU and US taxes paid, it comes with a spare original engine and an assortment of other parts.
Having been owned by the BMW factory for many years, chassis number 97 has had a distinguished life in motorsport. Campaigned throughout the racing circuits of North America in period and having recently been brought back to Europe by its third owner from new, this car has proved to be highly competitive once again. At the 2007 Goodwood revival, the car was driven in the St Mary's Trophy by Tiff Needell and was fastest in class.
