Lot 117: Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow I
Jaguar Heritage Auction, Barons (11th June 2006)
The Silver Shadow proved to be one of the most successful Rolls-Royce cars ever built. Timing was part of the reason but a conscious effort to offer a car aimed at the owner/driver also played a big part. Launched during one of the most progressive periods in UK history, the Silver Shadow appealed to the nouveau riche who had earned their money in sport, fashion or pop music and it sold like no other Rolls-Royce ever had. This early example is a two owner car, which was kept by its first owner for 37 years. The vendor has owned the car for 3 years but says that he just cannot justify ownership as the car is rarely used. The car has covered a genuine, according to the vendor, 86,000 miles in 40 years and has been correctly maintained by Rolls-Royce dealers and specialists. Finished in light metallic blue (possibly Caribbean Blue) with beige hide, the car is said to be in good to very good condition. It is complete with MoT to March 2007 and free Historic tax through to August 2006.
