Lot 08: Standard EIGHT DROPHEAD COUP�

The old established Coventry based Standard Motor Company produced a comprehensive array of motor cars in the 1920s and 1930s, all of good quality and competitively priced. The most notable of the latter decade were the 'Flying' Series with their up to the minute styling and good level of equipment. The range covered all horsepower sizes between 8 and 20, with the sale motto being 'Count them on the road'. Following the cessation of hostilities in 1945, a somewhat rationalised range was re-introduced, with the 8hp model, available in saloon, tourer or drophead versions, selling particularly well during this period of austerity. A well-equipped little car, the 8hp models were able to achieve 60mph plus, whilst being frugal on fuel, with 40mpg being the norm. The model range was to continue until 1948.Dating from the final year of manufacture, presented here is an 8hp drophead coup�. Clearly the subject of much work in the past, the car is finished in ivory with red leatherette interior trim and has, we are told, a serviceable hood. It has been stored for the past three years or so and will require general servicing and recommissioning prior to taking to the road. We are advised that the engine was rebuilt during 1999 and various bills are supplied along with a V5 document and an expired MOT certificate.
