Lot 006: Land Rover Series 1

Launched in 1948 and remaining in production until 1958, the Series 1 Land-Rover is now becoming increasingly rare and is highly prized by collectors for its no-nonsense purity and functionality. Indeed good examples of the very earliest models have been known to change hands for in excess of �20,000!First registered on 26th July 1949, this is a fairly early example of the breed that has been in the current ownership since September 1978. It was last on the road in 1979 but has been dry stored since then and is said to be still in good overall condition today  though obviously it will need thoroughly recommissioning before it can be pressed back into use. A SWB 88-inch chassis model, it has matching chassis and engine numbers and is still on its nice original Pembrokeshire number plate, LDE 677.According to an invoice in the history file, the engine was completely rebuilt in 1974 with new pistons, crankshaft and bearings and the vehicle has been little used since. It was also fitted with a new hood, seats and radiator in 1979. It is being offered here entirely without reserve.
