Lot 207: 1980 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II

The arrival of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Bentley T series in late 1965 marked a major change in Rolls-Royce motor cars; previously the products of Crewe had employed separate chassis but here was a car using unitary construction of chassis and body. This change, brought about by perceived market demands that considered the upright styling of the Silver Cloud/S series rather dated, inevitably decreed more uniform coachwork compared to the elegant designs that had gone before - but underneath the skin the new Rolls-Royce/Bentley offered even greater engineering excellence and sophistication. At the Silver Shadow's heart was; Rolls-Royce's familiar alloy V8 engine retaining the same 6,230cc as in the Silver Cloud III/S3 and a power output of around 220bhp. It was in the chassis, however, that important changes were made, most notably the adoption of all round independent suspension, including a sophisticated engine pump-driven self-leveling system, and disc brakes.The particular example offered here today left the production line in 1980 and is finished in Brewster green with a beige leather interior piped in green. The car has one of the most comprehensive history files seen by Coys, containing a full service history and including every bill from new totaling in excess of 300 pages with many thousands of pounds spent on the car. There are too many bills to list but one recent expense was the renovation of the wood trim by Coopers of Crewe. The car has been maintained regardless of cost by 5 previous owners, with the last owner of 9 years being a Rolls-Royce Enthusiast Club Member. The car is described as being in excellent condition and is offered with a V5 certificate and a current MoT valid until July of this year.
