Lot 131: Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible
Classic Cars, Barons (1st August 2006)
The Corniche title was first used on a production car back in 1971 when the majority of the major building of the MPW 2 Door Coupe was taken in-house at Rolls-Royce. Since then it is only the initial mods and finishing, which were carried out by MPW. This involved moving the cars from London to Crewe and back to London for final finishing. Based on the Silver Shadow and designed in-house, the coupe outlasted the saloon by only a few years but the Convertible was still around in the mid nineteen nineties, costing around £150,000. Despite appearing to be unchanged, the Corniche went through four incarnations over its 35 year production life, finally bowing out in 1996.This Series Two example is of 1982 vintage and is offered complete with full Rolls-Royce service history, which includes much recent work on the power hood. The motor car has covered a warranted 66,000 miles in 22 years and is described as being in very good condition. It is also said to drive very well indeed.Finished in Masons black with black hide, piped magnolia and matt finish veneer dash, this beautiful Corniche is part of a small private collection and has been lovingly maintained by the vendor. The vendor has employed the philosophy of, "if it needs doing it, it gets done" with all of his cars, which is obvious from the excellent presentation. The Series 4 Corniche Convertible sold for around £150,000 in 1996 only 10 years ago. This example can be acquired for considerably less
