Lot 401: 1926 Triumph 494cc Model P
Pioneer, Vintage & Collectors' Motorcycles, Bonhams (27th April 2008)
Triumph had specialised in the side-valve 500 single, their first efforts pre-Great War now amoungst the most numerous entrants in the Pioneer Run. In 1915 the Model H was introduced. A successor to the H was the 1924 Model P, which was a high-quality machine sold at a lower price than any other makers offering in the same class. Made for many years the P was produced at up to a thousand machines per week, an indication of the demand for it. DR 330, Devon registered on the 14th June 1926, has the desirable front drum brake. It is an older restoration, sadly unused since 1989, but which remains in good condition, although careful re-commissioning and safety checks will be needed before use. It is complete with an RF 60 log-book showing six owners, a V5 and V5C. It should be noted that the numbers given are from the documents: the Triumphs numbers remaining to be checked.
