Lot 201: 1982 Lotus Eclat 2.2
Autosport 2006, Coys (14th January 2006)
The Eclat was launched in October 1975, designated as a 2+2 seater by Lotus, it was very similar to the Elite in all but its fastback rear body styling and price. This radically-styled machine which effectively revitalised the company's image, successfully moved it forward from the spartan if enjoyable Elan and Europa sportscars of the 1960's to the luxurious high performance GT's of the 1970's and 80's. Eclats are based on a backbone chassis with all-independent suspension and glass fibre bodywork. This form of construction was light and with the legendary Lotus handling gave the Eclat a brisk turn of speed. This particular Eclat was manufactured in 1982, the last year of production and featured the 2200 cc twin cam four-cylinder engine. The car is described by the vendor to be in excellent condition. Finished in red with a black interior, the car has covered 86,000 miles from new. The car has also benefited from a complete engine rebuild at 78,000 miles in 1996 by Lotus specialists Paul Matty. The car has a current MoT certificate valid until October 2006, V5C document and service bills. XPW 77X is in good condition and a very affordable and practical Lotus.
