Lot 130: Cadillac Eldorado Convertible
Classic+Collectors, Barons (17th June 2008)
The Corvette was first seen in 1953, but it wasn't GM's only new convertible that year and certainly not the most glamorous or expensive. Those two distinctions belonged to the Eldorado, which debuted midway through the model year. The $7,750 base model price tag meant that only 532 were sold in the remaining months of the 1953 model year. By 1955 this had been increased to 2,150 and the price was coming down but the Eldorado still had the largest engine of any GM motorcar.
The 1967 Eldorado was unlike every previous Cadillac not only in that it was the first Cadillac with front-wheel drive but in style and attitude. Cadillac had never before made a coupe with no accompanying sedan, and the '67 Eldorado was also the only coupe that wasn't offered as a convertible. It would be another 4 years before a convertible Eldorado was, once again, in the brochures.
This 1975 example of the Eldorado convertible has covered a mere 28,000 miles in 33 years. This mileage is warranted, by the vendor, as being correct and the car is described as being in the condition one would expect of such a low mileage example.
Finished in white with baby blue leather interior, the car is equipped with the 593ci V8 engine, which drives through a three-speed automatic transmission. The car has the full list of options, associated with the model and is said to drive exceptionally well.
The car was owned by the vendor's cousin from new. It was presented to the vendor as a wedding gift with 26,000 miles on the odometer and was imported into the UK in 1999. The car now has 28,000 miles recorded. The original reason for the low mileage is that the car was stored, by the cousin, for 15 years. It has seen little use by the vendor over nine years, having covered just 2000 miles.
A rare opportunity to acquire an ultra low mileage example of this rare, front-wheel-drive American classic, which is complete with all original paperwork.
