1950 FORD CUSTOM DELUXE CONVERTIBLE



Red and black and red interior and a black top

Engine: V8, 239ci., 100bhp at 3,600rpm; Gearbox: Three speed manual on column; Suspension: independent front, leaf springs at the rear; Brakes: four wheel drum. Left hand drive.

It was said upon Henry Ford's death in 1947 that the wheels of the Ford Motor company began to turn more smoothly with the development of all new models following in the immediate years. This doesn't seem to be much of a surprise as the 1940s came to an end and into the 1950s car manufacturers started to pay greater attention to styling and power attributes. Some would say this was in direct competition of the considerably more stylish and performance based European competitors, others would say American manufacturers were finally settling into their long-held position as the world's largest producer of cars. Either the case, the timing was right, styling defined, and customers were ready and willing.

Part of Ford's marketing campaign '50 improvements for 50' the cars boasted such styling enhancements as a new hood ornament, recessed gas filler, three-bladed cooling fan and push button handles on the exterior doors. Also, at the head of this transition were the powerful V8 and the ever popular convertible. The two were merged and production of the 50,299 1950 Ford Custom Deluxe V8 two door convertibles rolled on. American's were treated a sporting and stylish ride with the dependability of Ford squarely behind.

The Custom Deluxe V8 offered today is a very nice reminder of the bye-gone era of American motoring history. This Ford benefits from an older restoration which has held its own against the test of time. The exterior is finished in a very sporty and fun red while the interior is very nicely trimmed in opposing red and black. Showing just over 60,000 miles it would seem that this statement would be an accurate description of its use. The Ford has been in the current care of its owner for only a few years and has been lightly used and well maintained. Documents indicate the prior owner was Mr. William E. Carter of Taunton, Massachusetts. Presented in handsome colors, desirable styling and with a powerful V8, this Ford is running well and should be considered.
