Lot 205: Jaguar XJ6 S1 2.8 Saloon
Jaguar Heritage and Classic Cars, Barons (1st May 2007)
The time is September 1968 and the Telegraph magazine has a large feature on the new Jaguar saloon. The journalist is wowed by the ride quality and all-round performance of this new Jaguar, as would all those who tested the model over the coming months. The new model was, of course, the XJ6, which was often awarded the accolade of the "Best Car in the World" and formed the basis of the Jaguar saloon range for the next 20 years. Offered here is a 35 year old 2.8 saloon, which was originally supplied, by Henlys in Manchester, to a Mr. T. O. Burton in 1972 and was registered to him and then to his wife until 2000, when, with 16500 miles on the clock, it was acquired by the vendor. The car is said to be predominately original having never had any panel work and only minor paintwork to correct a small scratch on the near side. This 35 year old car is described as being in outstanding condition and with a little effort (mostly in the engine bay) could be made into a concours contender. The car has now covered a warranted 22,800 miles from new, is said to have been waxoyled every year and has just been fitted with a new stainless steel exhaust system. Early Jaguar saloons of this caliber, are rarely offered for sale. This lovely example offers outstanding value.
