Lot 112: Mercedes-Benz 280SL (W107)
Jaguar Heritage and Classic Cars, Barons (1st May 2007)
The Mercedes SL was updated in 1971 with the new 107 model, but the new car borrowed heavily from the original "Pagoda". Though bigger and heavier, the new car managed to retain the classic looks and the model continued to be the choice of the rich and famous, for 18 years. It was rare to see an episode of Dallas or Dynasty without an SL making an appearance.
The 107SL was a hugely successful model, which remained in production for 17 years, largely unchanged. Engine options expanded and ranged from 2.8 straight six to V8's, with capacities up to 5.6 litre by the end of the production run in 1989.
