Lot 102: Jaguar XJ6 2.8 Saloon

The time is September 1968 and the Telegraph magazine has a large feature on the new Jaguar saloon. The journalist is wowed by the ride quality and all-round performance of this new Jaguar, as would all those who tested the model over the coming months. The new model was, of course, the XJ6, which was often awarded the accolade of the "Best Car in the World" and formed the basis of the Jaguar saloon range for the next 20 years. Offered here is a fine example of a Series One 2.8, which is equipped with the 4-speed manual transmission, plus overdrive, is said to have covered a warranted 64,000 miles from new and is described as being in excellent condition throughout. Finished in Sable with biscuit leather, the car is offered complete with extensive service history, from it its two previous owners, which includes bills for engine and gearbox rebuilds, new clutch, new tyres and servicing bills. These and up to a considerable amount with the engine rebuild costing £2150 itself, plus a further £1700 gearbox and clutch. This rare survivor is described as being an outstanding example throughout, was rust-proofed from new and is said to drive exceptionally well.
