Lot 205: Jaguar MKVII
Barons, Classico Italia + Classic Cars, Barons (31st July 2007)
It is 57 years since the Jaguar MKVII was launched (there was no Jaguar MKVI , because Bentley already offered a MKVI). After 4 years it was upgraded to "M" Specification. This upgraded model benefited from quite substantial changes, which included a high-lift camshaft for the 8.1 compression engine, giving a 20hp increase in power at 180bhp, a closer ratio gearbox, stiffer front torsion bars, new and repositioned fog and driving lights, restyled bumpers, which now included overriders, flashing indicators and a revised auto box, which now used 1st gear when starting in drive. These changes made the car go faster, handle better and look more like the XK Sports car in the finer detail. The M is much rarer than the MKVII, with only 2016 LHD examples built and 7245 RHD. This compares with 8200 LHD and 12755 RHD MKVII's. Offered here is a MKVIIM, which has just arrived from Canada, where it was part of a large private collection. It is in very sound overall condition, runs, drives and is complete with original tools and the original radio (not fitted). The car does require some TLC but is extremely solid with good paintwork, good chrome and excellent panel fit Finished in black with red leather and carpets, the car has the 3.4 litre, XK engine mated to a three speed Borg Warner transmission. The car is also equipped with a, Factory fitted, sliding sunroof.
