Lot 207: Ferrari 308 GTB

Officially introduced at the Paris Salon in October 1975, the 308 GTB's styling was all new but incorporated all of the old magic by blending aspects of the Dino 206/246 with the later 365 GT4/BB. Reminiscent of the Boxer was the dihedral groove at bumper level splitting top and bottom, the plunging nose and the sail panels reaching back to meet a shallower spoiler, while the conical side air intakes and recessed concave rear window were familiar from the Dino. This very fine steel bodied 308 from 1979 is finished in the traditional colour of red with a black interior, having been garaged while in the hands of the current owner the cars body remains in very fine order showing none of the normal signs of corrosion associated with these early 308 models. This owner, an Itallian resturanteur has enjoyed the car for some 20 odd years and within this time taken his prized Ferrari on many trips to the home land, stating the car always ran very well on these trans European journeys. This may be in part due to a total engine rebuild carried out using genuine parts from Ferrari agents Marrenello Concessionaires in Egham. This work completed in 1987 when the car had only covered some 33,000 miles. Accompanying the car comes a history file containing these bills and many more for service and maintainence work carried out, including a recent £4000 bill for a major service from Ferrari specialist Verdi.
