Lot 31: Porsche 930 SE FLATNOSE TURBO CABRIOLET
Classic & Historic Automobile, BCA (2nd October 2007)
The Porsche 911 Turbo first appeared in 1975, initially with a 3-litre engine which was increased to 3.3-litres in 1977. The model had originally come about as a result of Group Four homologation rules which required a set number of road cars to be produced in this case 400. Following the introduction of the 3.3-litre engine, now fitted with an intercooler, the power output had now been increased to 300bhp, giving a maximum speed of 160mph. A slanting flat nose, which had appeared on the 935 competition model, was also to be available on the 911, the conversion initially offered by Kremer Racing and then eventually available as an option from 1986. The frontal aspect with the flat nose was dramatically different, featuring pop-up headlamps, whilst overall the styling and stance took on a lower and more aggressive appearance, accentuated by the extra cooling vents and wider sills.Featuring a particularly impressive specification, the example presented here is of 1986 manufacture and has covered just 53,000 miles. Finished in Guards red, it is an original factory 'flatnose' 930 Turbo and has the G50 5-speed gearbox, full red leather seats, cup-type alloy wheels, stainless steel exhaust system, Sony radio/cassette head unit with Kenwood amplifier and 10-stack CD multi-changer. For peace of mind, a Tracker GPS security system is fitted, a Cobra Category 1 keyless entry alarm/immobiliser system has been installed, plus a further Cobra manual default immobiliser unit. The mohair hood and tonneau are understood to be new and the extensive history file shows in excess of 20,000 to have been spent during the last 2,000 miles. An impressive motor car with phenomenal performance, it is offered for sale with a recently renewed MOT certificate and V5 document, as well as the aforementioned file.
