Produced alongside the renowned Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost the 20hp model was equally as well engineered and became popular as a lighter alternative suitable for a wide range of body styles. The 3.1-litre, six-cylinder monobloc engine featured overhead valves with unit construction gearbox, single plate clutch and open shaft with spiral bevel drive. As the company�s founder Henry Royce said when the car was introduced, �simplicity was one of the aims of the designers, but not at the expense of perfection.� Intended principally as an �owner driver� car, the �Twenty� sold well during the period following hostilities, being popular as a town car while many were fitted with touring bodies.
Offered from a deceased�s estate, this Twenty was purchased 2-3 years ago as a restoration project in running condition complete with a separate, fully rebuilt, ash-framed, four-door tourer body. The chassis, suspension, brakes and steering have been fully restored and the body partially clothed in aluminium, although a number of panels have yet to be fabricated and there is no interior. Sold strictly as viewed, the car is offered with a quantity of spares to include all doors and a spare gearbox. There are no documents with this Lot.
