Lot 530: 1977 BMW 750cc R75/6
Collectors' Motor Cars, Motorcycles, Bonhams (19th November 2007)
Replacements for the /5 range, the BMW /6 series arrived in October 1973. The newcomers were more sportily styled than the outgoing /5s, boasting new side-panels and silencers, and totally restyled controls and instruments. Like their predecessors, the three /6 flat twins shared an identical stroke; the 500cc model though, had been dropped in favour of the new 600cc R60/6, while at the top of the range was a new 900cc superbike: the R90S. Apart from the updated styling, the presence of a disc front brake readily distinguished the /6s, which also benefited from the new five-speed gearbox.
Acquired by the vendor in April 2007, this time warp R75/6 had enjoyed only two owners previously, the original from new until 2003. At that time the machine had covered a mere 3,500-or-so miles from new, to which the second owner added approximately another 2,000 before selling the machine earlier this year. Its condition is, needless to say, commensurate with this unusually low mileage. The machine comes complete with period accessories including voltmeter, clock, Krauser panniers c/w inner bags, fail-safe prop stand, spot lamps (not fitted) and a choice of two screens. Totally original and unmolested, this quite exceptional R75/6 is offered with workshop manual, fresh MoT, current road fund licence, Swansea V5C registration document and 10 expired MoTs dating back to 1980.
