Lot 165: 1939 Pontiac Silver Streak Sedan

The Silver Streak gave Pontiac something to distinguish itself in an era when speed, even if it was only illusory, added glamour and excitement. It got its name from the five parallel silver strakes that streaked across the hood, matched by a trio of speed ribs on the front and rear bumpers, which were added to give a feeling of motion. Earlier Silver Streaks also featured a vertical-type grille, with even more chromium ribs racing up to meet the hood lines. This was a familiar Art Deco theme; similar decorative striping being applied to everything from tableware to intercity buses. But in the early 50's the Silver Streak streaked off into history: the Art Deco era of automotive design had finally ended. Power was provided by a 4 litre flat head straight six engine with a manual three speed gearbox. The model provided good performance and sold well from new. This particular car was manufactured in 1939 and imported into the UK in 1989 and is left hand drive. It is reported by the vendor to be a very sound car and remains in good condition. The car is finished in black with a brown and beige interior. The car is supplied with a V5, import certificate and old MoT's and shipping information. It would be ideal for log distance rallies for pre-war cars as the 4 litre straight six engine had a reputation for reliability while the chassis is known for strength and has good ground clearance.
