Lot 257: 1973 Reliant Scimitar GTE

Coys at Ascot, Coys (30th September 2006)

1973 Reliant Scimitar GTE
Launched in 1968, the Scimitar GTE was the original sports estate. Stable mate to the GT Coupe, it was the first car to offer split folding rear seats. It utilised stiff separate chassis to underpin its lightweight, rust free fibreglass bodywork. With independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a rear axle located by Watts's linkage, rack and pinion steering and front disc/rear drum brakes, handling and braking were strong points. Powered by a ford 3 litre V6 engine developing 138 bhp, the GTE was tested at over 120 mph and could sprint to 60mph in 8.9 seconds. This well presented example in Cherry Red with beige interior is described as being in excellent original condition both inside and out. Much time has been expended in the mechanical department including the addition of unleaded heads and an extensive collection of spare parts. This unusual shooting brake, once the transport of choice for royalty, drives well and comes complete with a full year's tax and MoT.
