Lot 103: 1985 Bitter SC Coupe - Ex-Earls Court Motor Show Car
The Excellence of Prosche, Coys (27th August 2006)
Produced by racing driver Eric Bitter, the company started building cars in 1971, specifically for the CD. His base was a one acre site in his home town of Schwelm. When Opel launched the technically advanced Senator in autumn 1978, Erich Bitter had been at work for a year on a CD replacement. He started talks with Opel in 1977 about using the Senator's engine and running gear for his new car, the SC.Bitter was initially able to build only one car a week, but output doubled later in 1982. Erich Bitter was looking to expand and started to look for production elsewhere. In early 1983 he found Steyr Daimler Puch at Graz in Austria who managed to build 3 to 4 cars a week until late 1985 when money became tight and production eased right down.On offer today is a rare right hand drive version of the 140 mph SC Coupe which cost approximately £39,000 in 1985. It is believed that only 19 of the 3.9 litre RHD cars were produced and this automatic transmission version was the 1985 Earls Court Motor Show car. The Manzell developed 3.9 litre engine produces 210 bhp at 5100 rpm and 260 lb/ft of torque @ 3400 and provides swift performance. The cream interior is in Italian Kid Leather and provides supremely comfortable accommodation for 4 adults together with an appropriate amount of luggage space. The car is supplied with a documented service history and with MoT's dating back to 1988 indicating that the recorded mileage of approximately 43,500 is correct. The car has had an engine overhaul and a new viscous fan and water pump have recently been fitted, together with a new windscreen. The car has seen regular but limited recent use and is described to be in good condition throughout. Finished in steel blue metallic the car has a current MoT valid until November 2006 and a V5 certificate.
