Lot 118: Daimler V8 250 Saloon
Jaguar Heritage + Classic & Collectors Motor Cars, Barons (29th April 2008)
First seen in 1962, the Daimler 2.5 Litre Saloon (latterly the V8250) was a marriage between the MKII Jaguar and the Edward Turners wonderful V8 engine, in 2.5 litre form. The Daimlers were easily spotted by the fluted grill and they also benefited from more luxurious interiors. All of the earlier 2.5 Litre Saloons had the Borg Warner automatic transmission but a very limited numbers of V8 250's were supplied with the manual + overdrive transmission, as fitted to the 240 and 340, which is what we have here. Said to have benefited from panel replacement and a full repaint by the vendor within the past few years, the car has also been the subject of the following. Interior refurb with the new carpets, new seat covers, new door cards and new boot carpet. Brakes have been overhauled with rebuilt calipers, new copper brake pipes, 4 new discs and new flexible hoses. The addition of wire wheels with new splined hubs and spinners, rechromed bumpers, new subframe mounts, new shocks, new complete clutch and new weather seals complete the picture of a comprehensive refurbishment. Finished in willow green with sage green leather, the car is described as being in outstanding condition and is only being offered for sale due to loss of garage space. The 2 1/2 Litre and V8-250 accounted for less than 9,000 units, over a 7 year period. Manual versions are extremely rare, accounting for just a few hundred of the total production of 4883 V8-250's.
