Dire que l'arriv�e en 1963 de la Sting Ray a caus� la sensation serait sous-estimer son influence sur le march� nord-am�ricain de voitures de sport. Son succ�s est alors tel que l'usine de Saint-Louis augmente les cadences, sans parvenir � fabriquer les voitures � un rythme permettant de r�pondre � la demande. Dessin�e par le patron de "l'Art & Colour Studio" Bill Mitchell, la nouvelle Corvette offre un style radical d�riv� de la barquette de courses Stingray. Pour la premi�re fois, la gamme comporte un coup� Grand Tourisme. Controvers�e � l'�poque, la vitre arri�re en deux parties ne reste qu'un an en place. Sur de nombreux exemplaires, elle est remplac�e � l'�poque par une vitre d'une pi�ce, ce qui rend les survivantes les plus d�sirables de toutes les Corvette de 1963 � 1967. Sous cette s�duisante carrosserie se trouve un nouveau ch�ssis en �chelle avec suspension arri�re ind�pendante, con�u par l'ing�nieur en chef de Chevrolet Zora Arkus-Duntov. Ainsi, le centre de gravit� est abaiss� de fa�on significative, ce qui permet d'am�liorer le comportement et la tenue de route.
Voiture anciennement californienne et compl�tement restaur�e aux Etats-Unis, ce d�sirable cabriolet Sting Ray est en �tat irr�prochable. La cylindr�e de 327 ci (5,5 litres) est pass�e � 350 ci (5,7 litres) par augmentation de la course, et le moteur est �quip� de culasses aluminium Edelbrock. Sa puissance maxi est estim�e � 335 ch, quelque 85 ch de plus que la version standard, alors que la voiture est par ailleurs �quip�e d'une bo�te manuelle Muncie M22 cinq rapports et d'un diff�rentiel autobloquant Eaton Posi Performance. La voiture est offerte avec son ancien titre de circulation de l'Etat de Floride, ainsi que des papiers de circulation hollandais.
To say that the Sting Ray's arrival for 1963 caused a sensation would be grossly understating its impact on the North American sportscar market. Such was its runaway success that the St Louis factory hired a second shift but still could not build cars fast enough to meet demand. Designed by Art & Colour Studio chief Bill Mitchell, the new Corvette featured radical styling pioneered on Mitchell's successful Stingray sports-racer. For the first time there was a Gran Turismo coupe in the range. Controversial at the time, the Coupe's divided rear screen would last for one year only; many cars were subsequently converted to one-piece glass, making the survivors with this feature the most collectible of all 1963-67 Corvettes. Beneath the skin was an all-new ladder-frame chassis with independent rear suspension, the work of Chevrolet Chief Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, the adoption of which enabled the centre of gravity to be significantly lowered, improving both roadholding and ride.
An ex-California car fully restored in the USA, this desirable Sting Ray convertible in presented in mint condition. The 327ci (5.5-litre) engine has been stroked to 350ci (5.7 litres) and fitted with Edelbrock aluminium alloy cylinder heads. Its maximum power output is stated at 335bhp, some 85 horsepower more than the stock unit, while other noteworthy features include a Muncie M22 five-speed manual gearbox and an Eaton Posi Performance, limited-slip differential. The car is offered with old State of Florida Certificate of Title, Netherlands registration papers and roadworthiness certificate.
