Lot 130: Aston Martin V8 Volante

The V8 powered Aston Martin first appeared in the DBS guise in the late 1960's although production would not get into full swing until 1970/71. The very early cars shared the twin headlamps and chrome grill with the 4.0, six cylinder car. When Sir David Brown departed, the new owners, Company Developments, gave the V8 a facelift with a completely new front end with single headlamps and new grill.After trying injection on the DBS V8, the company reverted to Webbers carbs on the 1974 V8 Saloon (the DBS tag had now been dropped), which meant a larger bonnet bulge with a bigger air intake. In 1978 the Oscar India cars were introduced and the first V8 Volante appeared, which was enthusiastically received by the American market. The Volante remained in production until 1989, when they cost over £140,000.Offered here is a Series One (1978-1986) AMV8 Volante. It is finished in Royal blue with magnolia hide, piped blue and is equipped with a power hood. The car is said to have covered just 48000 miles in 27 years, which is supported by all previous MoT certificates.With the 5.3 litre, quad cam, V8 under the bonnet, driving through a Torqueflite automatic transmission, the V8 Volante was one of the worlds fastest production cars. Reaching 60mph in under 6 seconds and capable of speeds well in excess of 150mph, this was no cruiser. A rare sight on UK roads, the Volante was produced in very limited numbers and mainly for export. To find such an early, rhd, example in such good order is quite unusual and offers the serious collectors a rare opportunity.The car is said to be in very good order throughout, is complete with original owners handbook, all previous MoT certificates and the original service booklet.
